Job Type: Part-Time

Salary: $26–$32/hour

  • Location: Eastern Oregon (remote base with frequent travel)
  • Schedule: 25-29 hours/week. Initial part-time position with potential transition to full-time
    employment in Fall/Winter 2026 as the organization and project partnerships continue to grow.
  • Designed to allow flexibility around seasonal duties work where feasible.
  • Compensation: $26–$32/hour, depending on experience
  • Primary Work Areas: Crook, Lake and Gilliam County basins, with occasional travel to Grant and Harney Counties as projects arise

 

Position Overview
This role is for someone interested in building experience in watershed restoration, working lands
conservation, and collaborative field-based conservation work. You will support field projects, outreach, events, and partner coordination while working closely with local landowners, watershed councils, SWCDs, state and federal agencies, and regional partners.

The position begins part-time, with potential to grow into a longer-term or full-time role in Fall/Winter 2026 for the right candidate, depending on performance and funding. This is a good fit for someone who is dependable, self-motivated, willing to learn, and interested in long-term work on Eastern Oregon landscapes.

We are especially interested in candidates who are from, or deeply connected to, Eastern Oregon communities and plan to live and work on this landscape long-term. Candidates actively connected to working lands livelihoods are especially encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities will include a combination of the following, depending on candidate experience, interests, and skill set. We do not expect applicants to arrive with experience in all areas, and some skills can be developed over time through training and mentorship.

  • Coordinate with watershed councils, SWCDs, landowners, and agency partners
  • Help plan and project manage planting and restoration work
  • Support beaver survey and monitoring efforts and field logistics
  • Support planning and delivery of workshops and small gatherings
  • Attend community outreach events promoting beaver conflict solutions and habitat creation
  • Assist with Instagram content and field-based updates (preferred, or willing to learn)
  • Assist with ArcGIS and Survey123 workflows (preferred, or willing to learn)

Qualifications / Experience Level Required:

Requirements
  • Must be able and willing to travel by vehicle across Eastern Oregon
  • Comfortable working in field conditions and variable weather
  • Able to work remotely and stay organized using cloud-based software and technology platforms
  • Strong communication skills across landowners, agencies, and partners
  • Ability to take initiative and follow through without close supervision
  • This role works best for someone comfortable working independently, staying organized remotely, and adapting to changing field and project needs.

Field Travel
  • 30% – 50% of time in field and at events
  • Overnight travel expectations
  • Use of personal vehicle with mileage reimbursement
  • Lodging covered for overnight travel, some overnight camping

Preferred Experience
  • Experience with field work, implementing fencing, planting, and in-stream structure
  • Background or familiarity with ranching or agriculture
  • Experience with ArcGIS, Survey123, or similar tools
  • Training or degree in vegetation ecology, wildlife biology, or related field
  • The role includes close coordination and mentorship alongside experienced practitioners and regional partners.

Formal degrees are helpful, but not required.

We are looking for someone who wants to grow with this work over time and help support the return of beaver populations to Eastern Oregon landscapes.
