Job Description: This is a 3-year grant funded opportunity within La Grande Parks & Recreation Department. I this role you will lead and implement diverse outreach, advertising, and communication initiatives; design and deliver culturally responsive presentations; conduct hands-on demonstrations in tree planting, care, and pruning; collaborate with the City Urban Forester to organize community planting events; and support the coordination of volunteers engaged in tree-related projects.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage and coordinate outreach, advertisement, and communication strategies for Urban Forestry’s expanding tree planting programs.
  • Prepare written communication materials such as notifications, press releases, website, and educational content.
  • Distribute advertising and media materials.
  • Ensure communication materials are accessible and relevant to low-income communities and non-English speakers.
  • Conduct public outreach for the Street Tree Planting Program, including presenting to neighborhood and community groups and responding to inquiries.
  • Research other private property planting programs to assist in creating a tree planting program.
  • Create and deliver culturally sensitive presentations and address inquiries regarding this program.
  • Conduct on-site demonstrations on tree planting, maintenance and pruning.
  • Follow all safety rules and procedures established for work areas.
  • Produce community events and manage projects to communicate and promote tree planting and education.
  • Coordinate tree planting events with the City Urban Forester.
  • Assist in coordinating volunteers for tree-related projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Experience Level Required:

REQUIRED
  • High school diploma or equivalent General Education Diploma required.

PREFERRED
  • Experience and/or education in the fields of Urban Forestry, Forestry, Horticulture, or Community Organizing.
  • Experience leading projects, including developing work plans, coordinating with stakeholders, and evaluating outcomes.
  • Experience producing clear and culturally-relevant communication materials, such as advertising, website, and education materials.
  • Experience conducting outreach, public speaking, networking, and relationship building with diverse audiences.
