Position Overview:

We are seeking a Mid-Level Principal Investigator in Archaeology to lead our archaeological projects and research initiatives. This role demands a seasoned professional with a strong background in archaeology, proven leadership skills, and a deep commitment to cultural heritage preservation. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing project execution, from initial planning through to final reporting, ensuring the highest scientific and ethical standards. This position offers the opportunity to work on diverse projects, mentor junior staff, and contribute significantly to the field of archaeology and cultural resource management.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage comprehensive archaeological projects, including survey, excavation, and monitoring, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and company standards.
  • Develop and implement detailed project designs, methodologies, and timelines, coordinating with clients, regulatory agencies, and project teams.
  • Analyze and interpret archaeological data, synthesizing findings into comprehensive reports and scholarly publications.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies, managing communications and consultations effectively.
  • Ensure project deliverables are completed on time and within budget, applying rigorous project management principles.
  • Oversee the application and maintenance of permits and ensure all activities are in compliance with pertinent laws and regulations.
  • Mentor and provide leadership to junior archaeologists and field personnel, promoting professional development and excellence in fieldwork and research.
  • Contribute to business development efforts by identifying new opportunities, preparing proposals, and participating in client meetings and presentations.
  • Stay abreast of advancements in archaeology, CRM practices, and technology, incorporating innovative approaches into projects and company practices.

Qualifications / Experience Level Required:

  • Master’s degree or higher in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a closely related field, with a specialization in North American archaeology strongly preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience in archaeological fieldwork, research, and project management, including significant experience leading projects.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in GIS, remote sensing technologies, and digital data management related to archaeological research, preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to cultural resources and archaeological investigations.
  • Track record of scholarly publications, technical reports, and professional presentations, preferred.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with proven experience in stakeholder and client relations.
  • Willingness to travel and adapt to various field conditions and project demands.
