The City of La Grande is looking for an enthusiastic, creative, and community-minded Urban Forestry Outreach Coordinator to work alongside our Urban Forester in growing a healthier, greener community.

Together, you’ll help expand La Grande’s urban tree canopy, engage residents, coordinate volunteer tree planting events, and inspire stewardship of one of our community’s greatest natural assets.

This isn’t your typical office job.

One day you might be creating educational materials or planning a community event. The next, you’ll be leading a tree planting demonstration, presenting to neighborhood groups, or working alongside volunteers to make La Grande a greener place to live.

What You’ll Help Grow

A healthier urban forest throughout La Grande.

Strong partnerships with neighborhoods, community organizations, schools, and volunteers.

Creative outreach, educational materials, and community awareness.

Engaging presentations and events that inspire participation.

Equitable access to tree planting opportunities, particularly in underserved neighborhoods.

Community pride and stewardship of La Grande’s growing urban forest.

Working alongside the City’s Urban Forester, you’ll play an important role in connecting people with the many environmental, economic, and social benefits that trees provide.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSES/CERTIFICATES:
Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent General Education Diploma required.

Preferred:
  • Experience in the fields of Urban Forestry, Forestry, or Horticulture.
  • Experience leading projects, including developing work plans, coordinating with stakeholders, and evaluating outcomes.
  • Experience producing clear and culturally-relevant communication materials, such as advertising, website, and education materials.
  • Experience conducting outreach, public speaking, networking, and relationship building with diverse audiences.

Special Requirements
Must be physically capable of operating motor vehicles safely, possess a valid Oregon driver’s license and privileges (or be able to secure an Oregon driver’s license within one month of hire date), and have an acceptable driving record. Use of personal vehicles for city business will be prohibited if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.
