Job Description: Duties may include, but are not limited to the following examples:
1. Herbicide application to control noxious weeds with a backpack and ATV sprayers. The Field Technician will be expected to work long days carrying a backpack sprayer in rough terrain. Some overnight camping trips required (no more than 3 nights at a time). Terrain may vary from riparian areas, forest, pastures, canyonlands, and rangeland. Project locations are located throughout Union, Baker, Wallowa and and Umatilla counties.
2. After training, the technician will be expected to mix and load herbicides and apply them according to label. Some knowledge of noxious weed species and native plants is required.
3. Survey, inventory, and map noxious weed infestations using handheld mapping devices. Survey may be done on foot, boat, or ATV. Survey may require long days of hiking in steep terrain.
4. Maintain mapping information, treatment records, and monitoring data using programs such as ArcGIS and Microsoft software. Extract and analyze data to inform project manager about effects of treatments and to provide feedback data to program partners and funding entities.
5. Assist with multiple outreach events including the Union County Crop Tour, County Fair booths, conference presentations, and landowner meetings.
