We will also consider a Job Rotation for current, regular status employees of the State of Oregon in good standing in a permanent or limited duration position (not temporary or seasonal) that is expected to continue through at least December 31, 2027. As the Salmon Reintroduction/Pelton Round Butte Mitigation Coordinator in Madras, Oregon, you will be responsible for providing ODFW participation and coordination in the implementation of the protection, enhancement and mitigation measures (PM&E) spelled out in the Settlement Agreement within the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission license of the Pelton-Round Butte Project including the fish passage plan.
The terms of the Settlement Agreement identify developmental and operational obligations of the joint Licensees: Portland General Electric (PGE) and the Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs (CTWS, acting through Warm Springs Power Enterprises) to mitigate the impact of the Project on fish and wildlife resources. The CTWS Branch of Natural Resources (CTWS-BNR) and ODFW are co-managers of fisheries resources in the Deschutes River Basin, on behalf of CTWS and the State, respectively.
As a co-manager, ODFW is authorized to coordinate with state, federal, tribal agencies and private entities in the implementation of PM&E measures and monitor compliance with the Project license terms and conditions.
Duties include:
- Make recommendations to the Licensees regarding study plans
- Provide technical assistance with various hatchery management plans and documents
- Research and develop juvenile salmon and steelhead rearing strategies
- Oversee the smolt acclimation program
- Assist with fisheries science data collection
- Coordinate with the Licensees, state, federal, tribal, and non-profit partners and the public.
- Monitor progress towards stated goals and objectives while representing ODFW

The goal of this recruitment is to fill the position at the Natural Resource Specialist 3 (NRS3) level. However, we encourage candidates who meet the minimum qualifications for the Natural Resource Specialist 2 (NRS2) ($4,622 – $7,070/mo.) to apply, as the department may consider underfilling the position.
This position requires a Boater Education Certificate obtained through the Oregon State Marine Board within the first six months of appointment.
