As a Natural Resource Specialist 2 (Assistant Fish Biologist) in John Day, Oregon, you will actively participate in all elements of the Northeast Region and John Day District fish programs by assisting District fish biologists in planning and coordination for management of fish resources. Duties include:
- Conduct day-to-day field activities of gathering data pertaining to specific aspects of fish resources
- Handling public inquiries and complaints
- Collect and summarize data on harvest, spawning, escapement and distribution of fish
- Protect aquatic and riparian habitat within the district by frequent field investigations of land use operations
- Recommend to various regulating agencies and private landowners how they might minimize, mitigate or eliminate damage to the fish resource
- Identify and develop habitat improvements and public access projects
- Provide information to civic groups, recreational organizations, governmental groups and the public in general regarding the Agency’s programs, activities and related topics
- Coordinate with District biologist to co- manage the fisheries resources with the Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs Reservation of Oregon and Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation

This position requires an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) Safety Education Card, Boater Education Certificate, Hazardous Waste Operations Emergency Response training certification (HAZWOPER), and Public Pesticide Applicator License (PPAL) within the first six months of appointment.
